Former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is making waves with his bold prediction for the upcoming UFC 308 main event in Abu Dhabi. Despite being on the receiving end of Ilia Topuria’s championship-winning knockout in February, Volkanovski believes Max Holloway has what it takes to reclaim the featherweight crown.
Speaking to Fox Sports Australia, Volkanovski broke down why he favors the Hawaiian challenger: “Max’s takedown defense is going to be too much for Topuria. I think it’ll come down to the hands, and Max will be able to outwork him from the outside.”
Having shared the octagon with Holloway three times, Volkanovski speaks from experience when he warns about the challenger’s legendary cardio. “Five rounds with Max Holloway isn’t easy, especially if you’re looking for power punches. It’s going to be a long and hard night for Topuria,” he explained.
Should Holloway emerge victorious as Volkanovski predicts, the MMA world could witness an unexpected fourth chapter in the Holloway-Volkanovski saga. While Volkanovski holds three wins over Holloway, their competitive history and the dramatic changes in the division’s landscape could make for a compelling fourth encounter.
